Following a thorough recruitment process, the Imps have appointed highly rated Michael Skubala from Championship side Leeds United as head coach.
Skubala has over 20 years of elite coaching experience, including roles with the Football Association, culminating in his selection for the England U18 team. He previously led England’s futsal strategy and served as national team manager, having overseen more than 200 games as an international head coach.
While in the England structure, he worked with some of the most talented young players in the country, including Rico Lewis of Manchester City, Archie Gray of Leeds United U21s, and Max Kilman of Wolves.
He has been a member of the Leeds United coaching staff since the start of the 2022/23 season, and as interim head coach, he oversaw three games, including a 2-2 draw at Manchester United.
“It feels great to be here; it’s been a really warm welcome, and I’m looking forward to getting started,” he said.
“I’ve been here for a few games in the last few weeks and I’ve seen how important the fans are for the young players and how they can motivate the team.”
“I’m really looking forward to working hard with the players every day, meeting the fans, and being a part of Lincoln City.” “I feel something here that I didn’t feel when I moved to Leeds, and that is how important supporters can be to a club.”
“We have been tracking Michael for some time as he is one of the most exciting young coaches in the game right now,” Clive Nates said, adding that “we had a robust recruitment process to ensure he was the right person for us at this time.” We had a global list of 15 coaches who we thought would be a good fit, and Michael stood out during the interviews. The warm wishes from Leeds United demonstrate how well-liked and respected he was there.
“We see this as a forward-thinking appointment because Michael shares our philosophy on player development, style of play, and ambition.” He has a clear vision for how he will put this into action, as well as a track record of developing talented young players.
“We’re also thrilled that Tom Shaw will remain an important part of the structure as an assistant head coach.” He is an extremely capable coach, and we and Michael both believe he will provide strong continuity and support to the new head coach.”
The club will also look to add to its coaching staff, with an appointment to be made in due course.

Discussion on the forum:
“Agree or disagree, he will get a fair chance from me,” says Mike O’Sullivan. Look forward to the upcoming games!
Tom Shaw will also join the team as an assistant. He will only improve as a result of his recent games’ experience, and I believe he will make an excellent Head Coach one day.”
Impish: “I hope that anyone who is disappointed that their preferred choice for manager/coach was not chosen will give Michael their full support and, more importantly, their time.” We have some tough games coming up, so it could be a difficult start.
“Hello, Michael Skubala.”
“Well, I didn’t see that one coming!” says Scotimp. How do the directors keep these secrets hidden?
Let’s rally behind him because he could be the best hire the club has ever made.”
