After Middlesbrough’s defeat, Harry Winks sends a defiant message to Leicester City.
Leicester City were defeated by Middlesbrough on Saturday, their second consecutive defeat.
Leicester City midfielder Harry Winks is confident his team will recover from two consecutive defeats.
Following a 1-0 loss to Leeds United on Friday night, the Foxes were defeated by Middlesbrough by the same scoreline at the Riverside Stadium on Saturday.
Leicester had chances in the game, with Jannik Vestergaard’s header forcing a superb save from Seny Dieng before Kelechi Iheanacho hit the post, but Boro sealed the win with an 83rd-minute free kick from Sam Greenwood.
Enzo Maresca’s team is still top of the table, but they are now level on points with second-placed Ipswich Town and only eight points ahead of third-placed Leeds United.
The Foxes return to action after the international break, hosting 13th-placed Watford at the King Power Stadium in less than two weeks.
What did Harry Winks say after Leicester City lost two games in a row?
Winks believes that his team deserved to win against Middlesbrough, and he is unconcerned about recent results.
“It’s really frustrating,” Winks told Leicestershire Live, as quoted by Foxes Hub.
“We dominated the game and had complete control.”
“They gave it their all, but in the last two games, we’ve conceded from corners and free kicks, and it’s cost us the games.”
“It’s so frustrating because when you play as well as we have, when you create chances and dominate the game, these are the games where you have to take chances.”
“When you don’t take chances, you can feel their crowd lift, their players are still in the game, and all it takes is one moment, and that’s what happened in the last two games.”
“It’s a difficult one to accept, but as a team, we must stick together, keep going, and believe in what we’re doing because it has worked for us so far.”
“We must not give up and must persevere.”
“If we were playing poorly and getting beaten, and teams were coming at us, dominating the ball and the chances, it might give you reason to be less confident.” However, this is not the case.
“We’re dominating possession and creating so many opportunities.” We’re just not scoring right now. That will happen. We’ve shown in some of the games that we can score a lot of goals, so it’s all about believing, sticking with it, and not giving up.
“If we’d predicted we’d be in this situation at the start of the season, we’d have been very happy.”
“Our performance, level of play, and results have all been excellent.”
“Our last two games have been difficult. It will always happen in the Championship.
“The most important thing is to learn from it, stay positive as a team, and not react negatively because there’s a long way to go, a lot of games to play, and once you get on a roll and start picking up points, things can get forgotten.” That is something we must keep in mind.”
Despite Leicester’s back-to-back defeats, Winks is correct to remain upbeat.
The Foxes maintain a commanding lead at the top of the table, despite facing tough games against in-form Leeds and Middlesbrough in their last two matches.
Maresca’s team had a slightly disappointing performance on Saturday, but they still created chances and were unlucky to come away empty-handed.
With the talent in their squad, it would not be surprising to see Leicester regain their form following the international break.
