‘Sucks,’ says another Newcastle United player who underwent surgery and will be sidelined until 2024.

Newcastle United winger Jacob Murphy has provided an update on his shoulder surgery.

The 28-year-old sustained a dislocated shoulder against Arsenal last weekend, just 10 days after suffering the same injury against Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League.

Murphy had surgery earlier this week, according to Magpies manager Eddie Howe.

“He’s had surgery,” Howe confirmed to The Gazette. “Non-invasive keyhole surgery on his shoulder, which should have resolved the issue.” That will probably take about nine weeks.”

Murphy will be out until the new year after missing the last nine weeks of action for Newcastle in all competitions, including Premier League matches against Manchester United and Liverpool, as well as the Carabao Cup quarter-final match at Chelsea next month.

Murphy took to social media after the operation to provide an update.

The winger captioned an image of his left arm in a sling as well as the surgery scars on his shoulder, “On the mend!” On Monday night, the surgery went well.

“I’m feeling fantastic! It stinks to be injured, but I’m really excited to put myself to the test in a new and different way. Thank you for all of your well wishes; I’ll be back soon, new and improved.

Murphy is one of several Newcastle players on the club’s long-term injury list. Elliot Anderson, Matt Targett, Sven Botman, and Harvey Barnes are all out with injuries for extended periods of time.

Following a betting ban, Sandro Tonali has also been ruled out for the rest of the season.
