“We got beat and we apologise for that result but the lads are giving everything.”

“Yeah, it was obviously frustrating,” Trippier said of the game. We weren’t our usual selves. We were far off the pace, and Bournemouth deserved to win.

“They’re a good side (Bournemouth). We knew it would be difficult to come here. We did our best under the circumstances, but there are no excuses.

“That is the truth. We wanted to compete in every competition, including the Champions League. This is what we desire. We’ve lost a lot of players, but now is the time to stand tall and give even more. The international break has arrived just in time for us.

“We fell for their traps and turned it into a basketball game.” We had to establish our authority. We must return to the Premier League with a clear mind for Chelsea.

“It’s a fantastic opportunity for the young lads.” We will require everyone. They have trained well and handled themselves well, which we will require.

“We have a few weeks for the injured lads to get back in shape.” It’s the ideal time for an international break.”
