Aston Villa are in negotiations with Arsenal, but the talks may end in a stalemate.

Arsenal suffers a transfer setback! Why Arsenal will struggle to sign No.1 target Douglas Luiz from Aston Villa in January

Arsenal have made Douglas Luiz a priority target ahead of the winter transfer window, but they may be unable to sign him for two reasons.

WHAT OCCURED? According to The Mirror, the first reason Mikel Arteta’s side may be unable to sign the Brazilian is Aston Villa’s reluctance to sell the midfielder in the winter without a replacement lined up. Another issue that has been raised is Arsenal’s financial situation following a summer of large spending on players such as Declan Rice, Kai Havertz, and Jurrien Timber.

60m valuation could put Arsenal off key January transfer target

THE BIGGER PICTURE: The Gunners’ inability to sign goalkeeper David Raya on loan from Brentford this summer was also due to financial constraints. With Partey’s major injury, Arteta will be hoping that the club can complete the signing of Luiz sooner rather than later; or that they can shift their focus elsewhere.

WHAT COMES NEXT? Arsenal will return to action after the international break on November 25 against Brentford.
