Tottenham Hotspur are unable to recall Joe Rodon from his loan spell with Leeds United in January.

According to Phil Hay of the Athletic, a’source with knowledge’ of the situation claims that Tottenham did not include a January recall clause in the deal that brought him to Elland Road.

Rodon’s return to Spurs has sparked speculation this week after the club was thrown into a defensive crisis during Monday’s 4-1 loss to Chelsea.

Micky van de Ven appeared to have suffered a serious hamstring injury, while Cristian Romero and Destiny Udogie were both dismissed. The former will be suspended for three games.

Only Eric Dier is a fit senior centre-back, though Daniel Farke stated in his press conference on Thursday that he would stay at Leeds regardless.

Rodon’s loan to the Spurs does not include a recall clause.

And Hay has confirmed that Spurs do not have the option to bring him back to North London, as Farke stated in his latest article for the Athletic on Thursday.

This will be welcome news to Leeds fans, as Rodon has developed into a key player since joining from Spurs, forming an excellent partnership with Pascal Struijk.

Rodon has improved week by week, and his importance to the team was highlighted when he was named to the bench during Leeds’ 3-1 defeat at Southampton in September.

With speculation about who might leave already starting ahead of January, it is a relief for fans that they do not have to worry about what might happen with Rodon.

Hopefully, he can maintain his excellent form throughout the season, and Leeds decides to make his stay permanent, whether promotion is secured or not.
