The incident occurred following Newcastle United’s 2-2 draw with Wolverhampton Wanderers.
Following the 2-2 draw against Newcastle United last month, Wolverhampton Wanderers sporting director Matt Hobbs was given a one-match stadium ban and fine.
The decision to award the Magpies a penalty on the brink of half-time resulted in Callum Wilson scoring his and his team’s second goal at Molineux.
When Fabian Schar went down in the box under a challenge from Hee-Chan Hwang, referee Anthony Taylor pointed to the spot. A lengthy VAR review was conducted, but the on-field decision stood.
Hwang later equalized in the second half, but Wolves’ manager Gary O’Neil slammed the decision as “scandalous” at full time.
Hobbs was charged with improper conduct by the FA a few days later after allegedly using inappropriate, abusive, and/or insulting language towards a match official.
An independent regulatory commission has now found Hobbs guilty. Hobbs was fined £4,000 and given a one-game stadium ban.
“Wolverhampton Wanderers’ sporting director has been given a one-match ground ban and a £4,000 fine for misconduct at their Premier League game against Newcastle United on Saturday 28 October,” according to a statement.
“Matt Hobbs admitted that his language toward a match official in or near the tunnel following the final whistle was improper, abusive, and/or insulting.”
“An independent Regulatory Commission imposed these sanctions following a hearing, and its written reasons will be published in due course.”
On Saturday, both clubs were at the center of another VAR controversy. Mikel Arteta branded the decision to allow Anthony Gordon’s winner against Arsenal to stand as a “absolute disgrace” after Wolves were defeated in injury time at Sheffield United.
