Marcel Bout has been appointed as Newcastle’s new dynamic scouting director.
Newcastle United has appointed Marcel Bout as its new head of global scouting.
The club has made yet another high-level appointment as they strive to reach the peak of the game.
Marcel Bout has worked with some of the largest clubs in the world, including Manchester United and Bayern Munich, as well as the Dutch national team.
Bout will join Newcastle as the club’s global scouting director for young players.
He will join Newcastle as the club’s head of global scouting, looking for 16-23-year-olds to nurture into potential stars.
Feyenoord and FC Volendam, where Newcastle has Yankuba Minteh and Garang Kuol on loan, are two of the clubs he has worked with in Holland.
I can report that Marcel Bout has accepted to join #NUFC as global scouting director.
The Dutchman has previously worked for Bayern Munich, Manchester United, Feyenoord, and FC Volendam.
He will be scouting players aged 16 to 23, recognizing talent all throughout the world.
Bout spent eight years at Manchester United, joining the club in 2014 as an assistant coach in charge of opposition scouting and eventually becoming their chief global scout two years later until leaving in 2022.
The hiring will most likely relieve some of the load on Dan Ashworth, who has been highly involved in the club’s youth recruitment since his arrival.
Bout’s tenure at Manchester United coincided with the club’s most turbulent period.
Despite spending eight years at Manchester United during probably their worst period in the Premier League, Bout’s CV suggests he’s a man who knows the game and should be a solid selection by the owners.
Hopefully, he will be able to persuade young players that Newcastle is the club to join after being beaten to two hot prospects last summer by Chelsea (Andrey Santos and Dujuan Richards), despite Newcastle’s lackluster track record of nurturing new players.
The future has just become a little brighter.
