Leeds United Are Refusing To Sell Star Player For A Lower Fee Despite Premier League Interest
According to Football Insider’s Peter O’Rourke, Leeds United are willing to let Wilfried Gnonto depart in the January transfer window, but the Peacocks will only sell for a fair price.
As the winter transfer window approaches, questions over Gnonto’s future at Leeds United have resurfaced after the 20-year-old attempted to force a move away from Elland Road earlier this summer.
The Italian player was kept out of the Leeds team for the majority of August after refusing to play in protest of the club’s failure to sell him during the previous transfer window.
Furthermore, Gnonto’s choice to try to force a trade has harmed his relationship with manager Daniel Farke as well as the Whites’ fanbase.
Since the transfer controversy, the Italy international has struggled for game time and form. Gnonto has appeared in seven Championship games and made three starts since the end of the last transfer window.
Farke, on the other hand, has put his faith in the attacking quartet of Crysencio Summerville, Georginio Rutter, Dan James, and Joel Piroe, who have helped Leeds to third position in the Championship.
According to the latest developments in the Gnonto transfer saga, Leeds will aim to make a profit from the highly-rated attacker, whose contract at Elland Road expires in June 2027.
According to Tansfermarkt, Leeds signed Gnonto for about £3.8 million in September 2022, and his projected value has increased to £15.5 million.
Also, according to Football Insider, the former Zurich man is dissatisfied at the club as a result of the summer transfer saga and his lack of game time.
Gnonto was a Premier League standout before Leeds were relegated last season. The Italian scored three goals in his final ten Premier League appearances of the 2022/23 season, but the Yorkshire club finished 19th.
According to Calciomercato, following Leeds’ relegation from the Premier League, Manchester City and Arsenal have shown interest in Gnonto.

Leeds are currently in a position to influence the outcome of Gnonto’s increasingly likely departure from Elland Road. The club is well aware of the player’s potential and future value, and they are not in a rush to sell, which might give them more bargaining strength.
Furthermore, rumors that elite clubs are keeping an eye on Gnonto’s position give Leeds even more reason to demand a transfer fee that is at least market value.
