Aston Villa are considering a bid for the standout Championship midfielder when his contract expires.
Aston Villa are interested in signing a highly regarded Championship midfielder.
According to sources, Aston Villa are interested in signing a high-flying Championship midfielder with plenty of top-flight experience.
The Villains have had a terrific start to the season, winning seven of their first eleven league games, but Unai Emery wants to add more squad depth to his squad so that they can compete on all fronts in both domestic and European tournaments.
According to TEAMtalk, one of Emery’s major targets is Leicester City midfielder Wilfried Ndidi. The defensive midfielder has been with Leicester since January 2017 and has made over 192 Premier League appearances. Ndidi has plenty of European experience at Leicester, as he was a member of the club that reached the Champions League quarterfinals in 2017.
The Nigerian international has also represented the East Midlands in the Europa League and was a member of the team that reached the semi-finals of the Europa Conference League, a league that Villa are trying to win this season under Emery.
Ndidi was previously regarded as one of the league’s greatest defensive midfielders, and he was a crucial component of a Leicester squad that finished fifth in back-to-back seasons under Brendan Rodgers. Last season was Ndidi’s most challenging in a Leicester shirt, as the club was relegated despite finishing 18th.
The 54-time international was one of the most important senior players to agree to stay at Leicester during the summer transfer window, and his expertise has been crucial to the Foxes’ impressive start in the Championship under new manager Enzo Maresca. Ndidi has appeared in 12 games for Leicester City this season, helping the club to the top of the table with 39 points from 15 games. However, the 26-year-old’s future with the club is uncertain at the moment because his current deal expires in June 2024.
TEAMtalk says that conversations with the player have taken place, but no agreement has been reached. Newcastle, Brentford, and Atletico Madrid could all emerge as potential rivals for the youngster, according to the site. Newcastle, in particular, is looking to add depth to their squad following the long-term ban imposed on midfielder Sandro Tonali for betting offenses.
