NEWCASTLE UNITED WANT ‘EXTRAORDINARY’ £47.5 MILLION MIDFIELDER AFTER LIVERPOOL INTEREST
Newcastle United are interested in signing Atalanta midfielder Teun Koopmeiners following the suspension of Sandro Tonali.
Newcastle United are interested in Teun Koopmeiners ahead of the January transfer window.
That is according to a Tuttomercatoweb article, which claims that the Atalanta player is wanted.
Newcastle paid a high price to sign AC Milan midfielder Sandro Tonali this summer.
However, due to gambling violations, the Italian now faces a 10-month ban, forcing Newcastle to look for another midfielder.
Teun Koopmeiners is a target for Newcastle United.
Newcastle are reportedly interested in Atalanta midfielder Teun Koopmeiners, according to Tuttomercatoweb.
Newcastle reportedly scouted Koopmeiners last week in preparation for a January move.
According to the report, Newcastle would want to recruit a loan midfielder with the option to buy.
Ruben Neves of Al Hilal is a big target, but Newcastle is also interested in Koopmeiners.
The issue is that Atalanta want a lot of money for the Dutchman, possibly up to €55 million (£47.5 million).
Newcastle appear unlikely to pay that amount and may try to entice Atalanta with a loan-to-buy deal in January.
Liverpool have also shown interest in Koopmeiners,
who has been described as ‘an exceptional footballer’ by former Atalanta ace Domenico Progna in 2022.
In January of this year, Tutto Atalanta in Italy stated that Liverpool had contacted Koopmeiners’ representatives.
The speculation continued into the summer, with Corriere dello Sport reporting in May that Liverpool had made a bid for the Dutchman.
Liverpool ended up buying four other midfielders, implying that a January move for Koopmeiners is unlikely.
This could open the door for Newcastle to strike, but it all comes down to Newcastle managing their money and attempting to entice Atalanta.
