Gabe Vincent was a perfect match for that scrappy Heat team; he was a comfortably above-average defender at the point of attack, he kept the ball moving, and he could make some difficult shots off the dribble. It would have been far more convenient for him to stay since it would not have required him to change as significantly as he is with the Lakers.
But the Heat were in salary limit horror, approaching the second luxury tax threshold without even making a free-agent move. (This also meant they couldn’t go all-in on Bradley Beal.) Thus, Vincent is quite justified in accepting the highest offer available, especially given that he only made roughly $3.5 million during his time in Miami.
