Daniel Farke wins the trophy, while Leeds United stars are overlooked after a statement win over Leicester City.

Daniel Farke, manager of Leeds United, has been selected manager of the EFL’s Championship Team of the Week, however none of his players were included.

The Championship team of the week is determined by the ratings earned by players across the division during that match round, and while a Leicester City player has been named in this week’s team, there are no other Elland Road representatives besides Farke. On Friday night, the German led his club to a 1-0 triumph over Leicester City, halting the Foxes’ nine-game Championship winning streak and handing them only their second defeat in 15 league games. Although there is still an 11-point gap between Leicester and Leeds, the significance of the result and The full-time celebrations on the Kingpower Stadium surface exposed the performance. Georginio Rutter’s second-half goal separated the two teams, bringing Leeds to within seven points of second-placed Ipswich Town, who have a game in hand.

Leeds had several key individual performances, including those of centre-backs Pascal Struijk and Joe Rodon, who kept a dangerous Leicester frontline quiet for the majority of the game, and central midfielders Ethan Ampadu and Glen Kamara, who were both hugely influential throughout. Archie Gray was brilliant again at right-back, and Daniel James provided a threat on the break but utilized the ball well, maintaining it well to alleviate the sting of the Foxes’ second-half pressure.

However, none of the aforementioned Leeds guys were included in this week’s Championship Team of the Week, with James leading the side in Whoscored.com ratings with 7.7. Struijk and Rodon had scores of 7.2 and 7, respectively, while Kamara and Ampadu received ratings of 7.5 and 7.3. According to Whoscored.com, James’ rating was insufficient to secure the right-wing berth in the Team of the Week, as Leicester’s Abul Fatawu edged him out with a 7.9 rating. The youngster was fantastic in the first half, giving Sam a run for his money.
