Newcastle United great Rob Lee believes Sean Longstaff is in the best shape of his career right now.

Lee spoke on TalkSPORT (25/10 9:09am) ahead of another big night of European football at St. James’ Park.

Eddie Howe’s men are riding high after a 4-0 victory over Crystal Palace at the weekend.

His club was rarely tested on Saturday and enters this evening’s game with their famous win over Paris Saint-Germain still fresh in their minds.

The atmosphere at St. James’ Park may have overwhelmed Kylian Mbappe and his teammates, but Dortmund are accustomed to a boisterous crowd.

Eddie Howe has a few major selection selections to make across the team.

Sean Longstaff is one man Rob Lee believes is in too fine of form to be discarded for Newcastle right now.

The 25-year-old wasn’t fully fit to start Newcastle’s first four league games, but he hasn’t missed a beat since.

He’ll be eager to improve on his goal against PSG last time out tonight.

Lee is a big fan of Newcastle midfielder Longstaff.

Rob Lee was asked if Newcastle needed to sign someone to replace Sandro Tonali, who is facing an extended suspension.

“It’s not a necessity, they’ve got some very, very good players,” Lee added. Sean Longstaff is at the prime of his career.

“You know, in my opinion, he should be in the England squad.” We’ll have [Joe] Willock back, which will be like signing a new player.

“So there’s plenty of cover in there.” Joelinton was injured and is now back, so we have plenty of cover.”

Eddie Howe has revealed that Longstaff has blown him away since his arrival at the club.

He’s a prime example of a player who has grown in stature since Howe’s arrival at Newcastle.

Many Newcastle fans will agree with Lee that Longstaff has been unjustly overlooked by Gareth Southgate.

Despite scarcely appearing at club level, players like Kalvin Phillips, who has just been linked with Newcastle, are getting called up.

Another strong showing in the Champions League tonight could turn the England manager’s head.
