Aston Villa defender went to social media on Tuesday (24 October) to thank fans for their support during his injury period as he return to training

Swift Aston Villa’s Alex Moreno is set to return from injury, according to a social media update.
Aston Villa defender Alex Moreno went to social media on Tuesday (24 October) to thank fans for their support during his injury period, and it appears that he will be back in action soon.

The left-back suffered a hamstring injury in Villa’s 1-1 draw with Liverpool at Anfield in May and has not played for the club since.

Moreno returned to the matchday squad against Crystal Palace but did not travel to Stamford Bridge last month as Unai Emery indicated (via journalist John Townley, 24 September) that he is not 100 percent comfortable competing.

Moreno, like Jacob Ramsey a week later, suffered a setback as he attempted to return to full fitness.

Before Sunday’s 4-1 win against West Ham, Emery stated that Moreno is making good progress and will soon be able to return to training as well as matchday teams.

And, in a social media message to Aston Villa fans on his Instagram account on October 24, Moreno appeared in good spirits, informing followers that he will be back in action very soon.

He went on to say: “Hello Villa fans, thank you for the messages I received, I am much better and I will be back soon.”

Expect Premier League injuries. According to Ben Dinnery’s Injury Table, the Spaniard might return to action as soon as November 5th.

Moreno’s return will provide an immediate boost to Aston Villa and Emery as they continue their spectacular upward trajectory under the Spaniard, and given the superb performances the former Real Betis left-back has displayed since his move from La Liga, Villa’s opponents may have to be extremely cautious.

Moreno made 19 Premier League games after joining for £13 million from Real Betis in January this year, becoming manager Unai Emery’s first purchase, and established himself as a regular starter before his injury.

Moreno was a standout for the Villans previous season, averaging 1.2 crucial passes, 46% dribble completion, and 1.2 tackles per game [SofaScore].

According to FBREF’s Opta-powered statistics, Moreno is in the 96th percentile of players for progressive carries (3.87) and the top 20% of his counterparts for progressive passes received (6.16 per 90) and successful take-ons (1.24 per 90) over the last year.

Moreno’s attacking abilities have been well known, and he has proven to be the ideal match for an Aston Villa team that modifies their tactical framework to allow their full-backs to burst forward.

Emery is in for a significant selection nightmare in the coming weeks, but that’s the price of having so many high-quality choices in just one position.
