£60 million is a staggering sum. Everton announce the signing of Jarrad Branthwaite, which might result in a multi-million pound profit.

According to Alan Nixon, Carlisle might receive a £6 million windfall if Everton sells Jarrad Branthwaite.

On Sunday (22 October), the newspaper journalist stated on his Patreon page that Branthwaite, 21, is being linked with a big-money move away from Goodison Park in January.

“Talk of a potential £60 million deal has eyes watering in Carlisle,” it is said, with the League Two club possessing a 10% sell-on clause on the defender.

Carlisle received cash boosts from sell-on clauses this year when Dean Henderson and James Trafford transferred teams, it is understood.

Carlisle might receive a £6 million boost if cash-strapped Everton decides to sell Branthwaite in January.

If someone offers £60 million for Branthwaite, Everton should take it because that is far over what Branthwaite is genuinely worth.

Sure, the former PSV loanee has done well at Goodison Park this season, playing a key role in Sean Dyche’s team winning two of their past four Premier League games.

However, £60 million for a player with only 17 Premier League appearances is absurd money that should not be turned down if an offer comes in during January.

Unfortunately, we doubt it will because that quantity of money is so implausible that we’re not sure why Nixon is bringing it up.

If it happens, it’s clearly wonderful news for Everton and Carlisle, but who on earth would put up that kind of money? Only Manchester City would be ready to spend that much money, and they clearly don’t need Branthwaite.

Everton, too, has to raise finance as soon as possible, which will become much more imperative if the 777 takeover fails.

Clubs are aware of this, and if they want Branthwaite, we expect the bidding to begin around £10 million or £20 million.
