Any ill will towards Tyler Adams at Leeds United will vanish as Fabrizio Romano delivers an update: Opinion

Following Fabrizio Romano’s latest injury announcement, Leeds United will not be without Bournemouth’s Tyler Adams.

Tyler Adams, a former Leeds United midfielder, will be out for a long time for AFC Bournemouth due to a hamstring injury, according to Fabrizio Romano.

The 24-year-old just joined Leeds last summer in a move worth roughly £20 million from RB Leipzig. Adams agreed to a five-year contract extension with Elland Road until the summer of 2027.

The defensive-midfielder arrived with plenty of elite-level experience, having played 75 Bundesliga games as well as another 18 in the UEFA Champions League and Europa League. Adams also has 36 caps for the United States.

Last season, he shone at the heart of Leeds’ midfield, appearing 26 times before a hamstring injury curtailed his season in February. That was an injury that necessitated surgery to help in recovery.

However, his fame and pedigree were always going to make it difficult for the Whites to keep him in the second tier.

The midfielder sparked plenty of interest, with The Athletic reporting that Aston Villa were “looking” at him during the transfer window, and The Daily Mail reporting that Adams was a target for Nottingham Forest this summer.

Chelsea, on the other hand, was the club most interested late in the window. The Blues agreed to sign the 24-year-old earlier this transfer window before dropping out at the last minute in favor of Moises Caicedo and Romeo Lavia.

The news that the transaction had fallen through piqued Bournemouth’s interest, and they eventually concluded a deal on August 20th for a sum of about £23 million plus add-ons.

How has Tyler Adams performed for Bournemouth?

Despite missing almost all of the Whites’ pre-season due to a hamstring injury, Bournemouth signed him and he passed his medical.

He even came off the bench for 20 minutes in the 2-0 win over Stoke City in the EFL Cup third round.

Adams, on the other hand, has yet to play a single minute of Premier League football this season, having missed all of Bournemouth’s available games since joining the club.

The 24-year-old will also be unavailable for the foreseeable future. Romano reported that his most recent surgery did not go as well as planned, keeping him out until February 2024.

Of course, any ill will toward Adams and Bournemouth will have dissipated for the time being. Leeds sold an injury-prone player and instead signed a slew of midfielders.

The performances of new addition Ethan Ampadu, who is capable of the ball-winning that Adams is famed for, have also made it easier to swallow the shock of losing Adams, implying that they didn’t require the duo as a midfield pairing in Farke’s double-pivot.

According to Phil Hay of The Athletic, the Wales international signed a four-year contract at Elland Road for about £7 million plus add-ons. Since his arrival, he has been perhaps the finest midfielder in the division.

He may have outperformed expectations, and his defensive-midfield performances, which included collecting the ball from the center-backs and goalkeeper and interrupting play, have garnered him high accolades from the public, where he has swiftly become a fan favorite.

He has seamlessly replaced Adams while also contributing far more with the ball. Ampadu is a Premier League prospect who has established himself as a high-quality, press-resistant defensive midfielder. Ampadu was also a fraction of the price of Adams.

The newest hamstring injury news only adds to Leeds fans’ smugness when comparing their midfield options in the Championship to what they had in the Premier League last season.
