In the January transfer window of this year, the East London club was connected with a bid for the 26-year-old winger.
However, it appears that Hammers manager David Moyes made another attempt to sign him in the summer.

And, according to TuttoMercatoWeb, he revealed the Hammers’ attempts to get him to East London during the summer transfer window:
“There was a lot of interest in the summer, but there was no follow-up.” Then there was the Europa League draw, and I saw that we’d be playing West Ham: that triggered something in me in terms of drive, not so much because I wanted to show them what they’d missed, but because I wanted to show that I could stay at that level there. I completed it. You know, with football you have to balance a lot of elements. There was some interest, but it never materialized. But West Ham manager David Moyes’s congratulations at the end of the game made me glad. In any case, I’m not thinking about the past too much, but rather about preparing for the match against Bochum in a few days.”
The 46-cap Hungary international can play on either wing or as a number 10, but his native position is on the right wing.
He has 23 goals and 21 assists in 134 appearances for Freiburg, and he has four goals and two assists in 10 games this season (Transfermarkt).
Sallai demonstrated his talent by scoring two goals for Hungary against England in a 4-0 victory for his country in June 2022.
In 46 appearances for his country, he has scored 12 goals. He is a strong runner and a fantastic all-around athlete.
Freiburg want roughly £17 million for Roland Sallai, according to Bence Bocsak, and it remains to be seen whether West Ham would go back in for him.
