Newcastle United begin talks with Kalvin Phillips.

Newcastle United have initiated negotiations with Manchester City midfielder Kalvin Phillips after being linked with a deal.
According to TEAMtalk, Newcastle United have began talks to recruit 27-year-old Manchester City midfielder Kalvin Phillips. The Premier League champions are willing to let go of the out-of-favour midfielder.

The Magpies are now in talks with the England international, and it remains to be seen whether they can persuade him to join them. During the summer transfer window, Newcastle United bought Sandro Tonali from AC Milan, and the 23-year-old made an immediate impact in the Premier League.

So far, he has been an important player for the Tyneside club. However, the Italian midfielder may face a lengthy ban as a result of his involvement in an illicit betting incident. As a result, Newcastle will need to sign a solid defensive midfielder, with Kalvin Phillips being a possible target.

The 27-year-old has struggled since joining Manchester City for £45 million, and a fresh start could be good for him. He might be an important player for Newcastle United in the second half of the season.

It remains to be seen whether Manchester City will allow him to leave in January. Manchester City pay the midfielder £150,000 a week, and the Premier League winners may look to get rid of him after failing to get the best out of him for months. A move to Newcastle could help him reclaim his top form.

Football rumours: Kalvin Phillips attracting interest from Liverpool | The Independent

Phillips was regarded as one of the league’s best defensive midfielders during his time at Leeds United, and he will bring much-needed talent and depth to Newcastle’s midfield. The Magpies are participating in the UEFA Champions League and require excellent players.

If Tonali is suspended for an extended period of time, they will require a quality defensive midfielder to replace him. Phillips is well-versed in the Premier League and may make an immediate impact at St. James’ Park. It will be intriguing to see if the two clubs can reach an agreement in the following months and complete the trade.
