“Was genuinely delighted” – A Leeds United supporter shares a great 7000-mile gesture to Marcelo Bielsa.
Kaiser Chiefs bassist Simon Rix was among a small group of Leeds United fans who traveled to Uruguay to witness Marcelo Bielsa’s national team during the international break, when he brought a bucket to the renowned former Leeds manager.
As much as the vast majority of Leeds fans will be pleased that Daniel Farke is the club’s current manager, as well as pleased with the job he’s done thus far, it’s difficult not to hear Marcelo Bielsa mentioned frequently.
The Argentine was responsible for some of the best football Leeds fans have ever seen at Elland Road, and his departure has left fans remembering.
What’s new with Marcelo Bielsa?
Now in command of the Uruguay national team, Bielsa is off to a solid start in international management, with the squad sitting second in their qualification group for the 2026 World Cup.
Their most recent result was a 2-0 win against Brazil, their first victory over them since 2001, with to goals from Darwin Nunez and Nicolas de la Cruz.
A handful of Leeds supporters made the over 7000-mile journey to Montevideo for the match, as disclosed on social media by James Rowlands, who was joined by Kaiser Chiefs bassist Simon Rix and Newell’s Old Boys fan Nicolas Bloch:
A task of their trip was to hand-deliver a bucket to the ex-Leeds manager, who was no longer visible on the stool he was always seen on at Elland Road.
Rowlands stated on social media that Bielsa was overjoyed with the gift:
That’s all there is to it. Mr. Bielsa now has a new bucket to sit on once the box was delivered. He was truly pleased.
