The FA and Newcastle United are awaiting word on the conclusion of the Italian probe concerning Sandro Tonali.

Sandro Tonali, a midfielder for Newcastle United, is still able to play against Crystal Palace this weekend, according to the FA. This is as they wait for the results of the Italian investigation.

Following an investigation into the possible use of illicit internet betting sites by the Turin Public Prosecutor’s Office, Tonali left the Italy team last Thursday and went back to Tyneside.

Giuseppe Riso, Tonali’s representative, made it known in the open that the 23-year-old struggles with a gambling addiction. Yesterday, Tonali traveled back to Italy to meet with Turin’s prosecutors.

According to Sky Italia, Tonali may be facing a lengthy suspension for allegedly confessing to placing bets on AC Milan games while he was still a Serie A player. Before moving to Newcastle in the summer for a £52 million price, he played for three years at the San Siro.

Many have speculated that Tonali may face a maximum three-year ban, with the possibility of a 12-month suspension if they cooperate. While they wait for an official conclusion, Newcastle has not yet commented on the circumstances.

The FA has confirmed that Tonali is still qualified to play in games till then. On Saturday afternoon in the Premier League, United plays Palace.
