Sunderland receives a transfer boost for Manchester United’s Amad Diallo.

United’s involvement in this contest has strengthened the Black Cats.

Sunderland are interested in loaning Amad Diallo, who played a key role for the Black Cats last season, contributing 14 goals and four assists in 42 appearances to help them secure a top-six finish. Diallo has been sidelined with a knee injury this season, but he is on the mend.

According to TEAMtalk, Manchester United are willing to loan out Sunderland target Amad Diallo in January.

According to the same report, the Black Cats have maintained their interest in the Ivorian after seeing him excel on loan at the Stadium of Light last season.

Diallo, along with Jack Clarke and Patrick Roberts, was a much-needed figure for Tony Mowbray’s side in the absence of Ross Stewart for much of the season, and with Ellis Simms returning to Everton early in January after his loan term was cut short.

The United man scored 14 goals and provided four assists in 42 competitive games, helping the Black Cats finish in the top six at the end of last season, despite just being promoted from League One at the end of the 2021/22 season.

Unfortunately for the Black Cats, it appeared that they would become the victims of their own success with Diallo, as he drew interest from a number of sides over the summer and it appeared that they would have a serious battle for his signature.

When Premier League clubs Burnley and Sheffield United apparently entered the race for him, it appeared that they would be out.

Diallo’s chances of a further loan move away from Old Trafford were dashed when he suffered a knee injury against Arsenal in pre-season.

This setback has held him out till now, and it could have wrecked his chances of making Erik ten Hag’s first-team plans for the rest of the season.
