West Ham are mulling a second approach for Harry Maguire in January if his lack of game time at Manchester United continues, according to ESPN.

The east London club held talks with United over the summer, but Maguire ultimately remained at Old Trafford to fight for his career under Erik ten Hag

The 30-year-old indicated earlier this week at St George’s Park that he would not turn down a move to London Stadium

“The actual opportunity to go to West Ham, it wasn’t agreed really between both clubs and myself,” he added.

“This wasn’t just my opportunity to say, ‘Yes, I’m going.’ It wasn’t agreed upon by both clubs, thus the genuine potential didn’t exist since we didn’t pursue it far enough

Maguire reiterated his desire to make a success of his time at United, but after appearing in just two of the club’s 11 games this season, he added: “I am not going to sit here all my life and play once a month, and if it continues, I am sure myself and the club will sit down and talk about things

According to ESPN, West Ham are encouraged that a deal might be rekindled in January, especially given that United are not likely to stand in his way of leaving.

Maguire is still a fan of David Moyes, and a move might be spurred by the potential of West Ham centre-back Kurt Zouma joining the Saudi Pro League in January.

West Ham are looking to tie down Zouma to a new contract, as his current deal expires in the summer of 2025.

Moyes appointed the 28-year-old club captain in the aftermath of Declan Rice’s summer transfer to Arsenal, and negotiations for a new contract are ongoing.

The Saudi Pro League clubs, four of which are now owned by Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund (PIF), spent extensively in the summer to lure many top European stars to the Middle East and plan to do so again in January.

According to ESPN, Zouma is one name PIF is ready to target if West Ham cannot reach an agreement.
