Sunderland fan commentator Jack Clarke claims “£25-30 million” as Brentford and Burnley circle.

Premier League clubs are interested in the winger once more, with FLW’s Black Cats fan pundit putting a high price tag on his head.

Sunderland’s spectacular start to the 2023-24 Championship season has been led by one guy on the pitch, Jack Clarke, who has been garnering all of the headlines.

The winger has seven goals in 11 league appearances so far, demonstrating that he has come a long way from his disastrous loan periods away from Tottenham a few years ago.

Despite Alan Nixon’s allegations that Burnley bid a guaranteed £7 million during the summer with an additional few million in prospective add-ons, Tony Mowbray managed to keep Clarke. Sunderland rejected this, and Vincent Kompany went on to other targets.

According to Football Insider, the Clarets are still monitoring Clarke ahead of the January transfer window, despite having a multitude of alternatives out wide that would make the Sunderland player a needless buy.

They’ve been joined in the contest by Brentford, who are also keeping an eye on Clarke after his impressive start to the 2023-24 season.

What does Jack Clarke cost Sunderland?

FLW’s Black Cats fan pundit Jack Austwicke believes it would take a massive bid for Sunderland to even consider selling Clarke, though he has admitted that the winger will most likely not be at the club next season if they are not promoted back to the Premier League before then.

“I know Burnley were circling all summer, but they reportedly put in some very insulting offers, around £7-8 million – that is really pathetic,” Jack told Football League World.

“Arguably the best winger in the Championship, young, English, and we’re not under any real pressure to sell him, so I think Clarke is worth £25-30 million.”

“You could say it’s the market going crazy, but I don’t see why not – we’re not under any pressure to sell him, we don’t need the money, and we’d have made a tidy profit.”

“And I think like Dan Ballard, we won’t really see him past the end of the season.”

Is £25-30 million a reasonable price for Jack Clarke?

Sunderland has every right to seek £25 million or more for Clarke.

He’s under contract on Wearside until 2026, so there’s no rush for the Black Cats to cash in, and looking at other former Championship players, it’s not exactly a bargain.

Hull received £20 million from Brentford for Keane Lewis-Potter while also agreeing a £25 million deal with West Ham for Jarrod Bowen, and you could argue that Clarke is on Bowen’s level at the time he was sold to the Hammers.

If Clarke maintains his present form, Premier League clubs will come calling, and a fee of approximately £25 million would be reasonable in the current climate.
