This Leeds United supporter must be regretting what he said following the Sam Byram news.
Since returning to Elland Road in the summer, the full-back has impressed.
It appears that not all Leeds United fans were thrilled with Sam Byram’s return to the club this summer.
This comes after the full-back said that one of the club’s fans heckled him during a pre-season friendly against Hearts.
How has Byram fared since his return to Leeds?
Of course, Byram had played for Leeds in the start of his senior career, making 151 games in all competitions between 2012 and 2016.
Following that, the full-back went on to play for West Ham, Nottingham Forest, and Norwich City.
However, after being released by the Canaries at the end of last season, Byram returned to Leeds ahead of the start of the current season.
The 30-year-old signed a one-year contract with the club that will keep him at Elland Road until the end of the season, and he has already made an effect.
So far, Byram has appeared in ten of Leeds’ eleven Championship games since the start of the season, scoring one goal and giving one assist while helping Daniel Farke’s side launch a bid for quick promotion back to the Premier League.
However, it appears that not every Leeds supporter was persuaded by the club’s choice to re-sign Byram when the agreement was first revealed.
In a pre-season friendly, what did one Leeds fan remark to Byram?
Some questioned if Byram’s signing would be a risk for Leeds, especially given his previous injury history.
As a result, it appears that some questioned the idea to bring the full-back back to Elland Road for a second stint, and were ready to tell him so, even if it has now acted as incentive for his outstanding form this season.
“When we played Hearts away, I was warming up behind the goal,” the full-back explained on The Official Leeds United Podcast.
“‘Byram, you’re only here because no one else wants you,’ one of the Leeds fans continued saying. I kept telling myself, “Pretend you can’t hear them.”
“I didn’t expect every fan to understand it, but most people have been positive and glad that I’m back,”
Where do Leeds stand in the Championship?
Byram has certainly contributed to Leeds’ strong start to the season as they seek a return to the Premier League.
The Whites are currently fifth in the Championship table, nine points behind the automatic promotion spots.
