Alex Neil makes Leicester City claim after demonstrating that technique is ineffective against Enzo Maresca’s team.

Alex Neil discusses Leicester City after his Potters were defeated 2-0 at the King Power Stadium, with Kelechi Iheanacho and Jamie Vardy scoring.

Following his side’s defeat at the King Power Stadium, Stoke manager Alex Neil stated that Leicester City will be “one of the best Championship teams in a long time.”

City won their 10th game in a run and sixth in a row in the league, defeating the Potters 2-0, with Kelechi Iheanacho scoring in the first half and Jamie Vardy scoring in the second. Vardy, along with Conor Coady, James Justin, and Harry Winks, is one of four England internationals in the team, which Neil believes is unusual in the Championship.

The Scot believes that the quality of the City squad, as well as how well they can play when teams open up against them, will make them one of the best sides to grace the division in recent years. Despite the fact that Neil felt his injury-ravaged side initially fared well with Enzo Maresca’s men.

“I thought our set-up was good,” Stoke manager Gary Rowett remarked. “Until the goal, I didn’t think they had a chance.” From our standpoint, the goal is quite disappointing. We just need to get down the line of the ball with Iheanacho.

“If we get to halftime and it’s still 0-0… Our aim was always to try late in the game. You could understand why, when we did have a go, you don’t come here and compete with Leicester. They have some excellent players. We could hear the coach for them saying, ‘They’ve changed,’ as soon as we squeezed into the area.

“The moment we changed, they picked up the pace at the top of the pitch.” If you try to squeeze and compress the game, Jamie Vardy at this level will cause you all kinds of trouble.

Thirty points from a possible 33 is Fulham’s best start to a second-tier season since 2000-01. It’s seven more points than City had after 11 games in 2013-14, when they finished second in the division with 102 points. Reading holds the record with 106 points in 2005-06.
