After having a very creative start to the season, Leeds United forward Dan James feels he has to start scoring more goals.
With four assists in ten games this season, the Welsh international is the Championship’s top assist producer.
James has only appeared in eight of Leeds’ ten league games so far; his errant attempt for United’s second goal at Millwall, which was finished by Joel Piroe, could have given him a fifth, which would have made his assist total even more amazing.
Nevertheless, as Leeds gear up to host Bristol City on Saturday afternoon, the 25-year-old is dissatisfied and eager to add more goals to his game.
In an interview with LUTV, James said: “I just have to keep accumulating as many [assists].
“I haven’t scored yet to get things going. That would be pleasant. But now that we have fantastic forwards, you have to constantly be alert because someone will eventually take your place, and I think that’s a good thing. Having competition is always a good thing.
The former Swansea City winger continued, “Everyone around me has added with goals and assists which is great, we’re gonna need that – it’s a long season,” reiterating manager Daniel Farke’s assessment that Leeds will require goals from all over the field to be successful this season.
James has been selected for Rob Page’s Wales team for the international matches in October, but he wants Leeds to finish the season strong by winning consecutive Championship games for the first time this year to put pressure on teams further up the standings.
We are currently in sixth place, although I believe that sixth and tenth place are tied on 16 points.
We need to keep putting points on the board since the top teams are currently nine or ten points ahead of us.
