Huddersfield Town have played a few games under new boss Darren Moore.
Moore’s first two games saw the Terriers get two well-deserved points, but their unbeaten run came to an end when they met Birmingham City, who won convincingly.
Of course, Moore has taken over a team that has been moulded by the previous manager.
As a result, the 49-year-old will have to work with this group of players until at least January.
Huddersfield will be hoping to cement their place in the Championship this season, and Moore may want to make changes in January to ensure that occurs.
So, here at Football League World, we’ve taken a look at five players that should be on the club’s January transfer radar…
Tom Holmes
Reading FC now has Holmes on their books, and it is thought that he will leave the League One club in January after falling out of favor for whatever reason.
The defender is set to be one of the Royals’ top targets, and he should be on the Terriers’ radar as well.
That is because he has previously demonstrated in the Championship that he is very comfortable at the level and, at his age, is someone who can still develop and improve.
Huddersfield needs to improve their defensive options, and considering his predicament at Reading, Holmes should be considered.
Styles, Callum
Most people were surprised to see Callum Styles continue at Barnsley beyond the summer transfer window.
The 23-year-old has excelled in the second division in recent seasons, and given that he was on loan at Millwall last season, it was assumed that he would go again, but this time on a permanent basis.
That, however, did not occur, and the midfielder is doing well with the Tykes. But, with January fast approaching, Huddersfield should consider bringing in Styles to bolster their midfield.
Moore’s midfield will need more goals and creativity, and Styles might be the perfect fit.
Charles Dion
Charles’ performances for Bolton Wanderers have not gone unnoticed, and he is anticipated to be a sought-after player in the January transfer window, just as he was in the summer.
Moore could be seeking to add to all departments in January, and while it will depend on the cash available, Charles should be at the top of the list for a possible striker arrival.
The forward has yet to play in the second division, but given his performances for Accrington Stanley and now Bolton, it appears just a matter of time before he does.
Clarke-Harris, Jonson
Peterborough United’s Jonson Clarke-Harris might be another addition to the front line.
The 29-year-old’s contract expires at the end of the season, and January could be an opportunity for the League One club to earn some money for the forward before he leaves on a free transfer.
Clarke-Harris has scored goals in both the Championship and League One, and wherever the Terriers are in January, Clarke-Harris may offer a genuine killer instinct for this Huddersfield club and keep them in the division for another season.
Hugill, Joe
The final player Huddersfield could be interested in is Manchester United teenage attacker Joe Hugill.
Hugill will only be on loan from Manchester United, so this might be a cheaper option for the club to reinforce their forward line.
The 19-year-old has been prolific for Manchester United’s under-23 team for some time now, and it appears that the next stage of his development will see him loaned away.
It’s uncertain whether that will happen in January, but if Moore is looking to bolster his front line but is short on cash, a deal for Hugill may benefit everyone involved and add a new element to this team.
