According to John Cross, Michail Antonio has received mockery for skipping the Footballer’s Football podcast after West Ham United’s loss to Liverpool.

The Hammers forward, who co-hosts the podcast with Callum Wilson of Newcastle United, made the daring prediction that David Moyes’ team would finish ahead of Jurgen Klopp’s squad this season, referring to the match at Anfield as a six-pointer.

The Jamaican forward was inexplicably absent from the podcast on Wednesday (27 September) after West Ham was defeated 3-1 by Liverpool on Sunday (24 September). As the line leader, Antonio didn’t have the best of games.

Cross reported on Friday, September 29, on page 60 of the Daily Mirror that West Ham striker Michail Antonio and longtime friend and Newcastle striker Callum Wilson co-host a fun BBC podcast called The Footballers’ Football podcast.

“Antonio projected that West Ham would finish ahead of Liverpool last week. However, the Hammers ultimately lost at Anfield, and the Hammers striker was nowhere to be found on this week’s episode, much to Wilson’s pleasure as he made fun of his friend’s absence.

When it comes to major games like the one the Hammers will play against Liverpool, you have to question if Antonio would be better off keeping his mouth shut. It will surely draw extra attention to the Hammers forward and may even enrage the opponents.

The Jamaican international was mocked for being overconfident or cocky before a game in which David Moyes’ team was clearly the underdog and not expected to win all three points as soon as he announced his prediction on social media.

The striker’s absence from the podcast this week has only increased that focus, which has led to the continued discussion of a prediction that was probably made in jest nearly two weeks after it was made and five days after the game was actually played.

Realistically, Antonio was just having a little fun, and he probably didn’t mean any harm by suggesting such a thing, but it seems like there would be less criticism of West Ham if he would occasionally keep his mouth shut.
