Over the summer, the midfielder moved to Bramall Lane.

In the most agonizing of circumstances, Coventry City just missed being promoted from the Championship to the Premier League at the end of the previous season.

The Sky Blues were denied a first-time return to the top tier of English football since the 2000–01 season after losing to Luton Town on penalties in the play-off final at Wembley.

After missing out on the opportunity to go up to the Premier League, the club struggled during this summer’s transfer window to hold onto several of its important players.

Gustavo Hamer was one of those that left the club. In the summer of 2020, the midfielder moved to Coventry from PEC Zwolle in his native Netherlands.

Hamer went on to play 132 times for Coventry over the course of the following three seasons in all competitions. During that time, he scored 19 goals, and his efforts twice earned him the club’s Player of the Year title.

Hamer would leave the Sky Blues in the summer and sign with Sheffield United, one of the teams who won promotion to the Premier League the previous year.

The 26-year-old was reputedly signed by the Blades for a sum of roughly £15 million, but how has he performed since then?

Here, we’ve looked at how things have gone for Hamer since he left Coventry for Sheffield United in the summer to help you find out.

How is Sheffield United’s Gustavo Hamer faring?

On the first day of this season, they lost 1-0 at home to Crystal Palace, and Hamer’s signing was not finished in time for him to play.

But under Paul Heckingbottom, the midfielder has swiftly made a name for himself in the Sheffield United starting lineup.

The Dutchman has made a respectable impact for the Blades by starting all five Premier League games for which he has been eligible.

Hamer has already scored twice for Sheffield United. He struck a breathtaking goal against Nottingham Forest on his debut, and then he outdid himself against Tottenham.

In fact, he is the only player for Sheffield United to have scored more than once in the Premier League this season, which may be a sign of the difficulties he will face at Bramall Lane.

With just one point earned from their first six league contests, Hamer and his new team appear to be in for a challenging campaign as they now occupy the bottom spot in the Premier League standings.

What will happen to Hamer next with Sheffield United?

When Sheffield United travels to the London Stadium to play West Ham this weekend, they will face yet another difficult test.

Beyond that, the Premier League standings and recent results do appear to indicate that Hamer will face up against Sheffield United for the remainder of the season.

But moving forward, the midfielder committed to Sheffield United by signing a four-year deal in the summer, ensuring his place at Bramall Lane through the end of the 2026–2027 campaign.

It appears that Sheffield United fans may at least look forward to many more moments of brilliance from Hamer over the course of the next few years given the remarkable way he appears to have started from an individual perspective.
